What’s a Brougham?
The 1990 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight Regency Brougham. That’s who The Brougham is.
Legend has it that after The Brougham (pronounced ‘Bro-ham’ and also known as the Mighty Mighty Brougham) was born in Michigan in the post-Regan era, he was first employed by the PGA at an event down in Phoenix. But while there are rumors and speculation, very few really know for sure how he got his first 90,000 miles.
What is certain, however, is that in 2008 I found him for sale in a small field on the side of the road just outside of Nashville, Tennessee.
Soon, The Brougham (pronounced ‘Bro-ham’ and also known as the Mighty Mighty Brougham) became the official vehicle of, well, me for the 2008 presidential campaign in coastal North Carolina.
Once the campaign was over, we literally drove from coast to coast. Now he’s suited up to do it again.
He doesn’t like hills, he doesn’t like weather, but he loves the American highway. So if you see him rollin’ casually in your town, give him a nod. Or friend him at his Facebook fan page and hear his occasional words of wisdom.
